Oliver North out as NRA president

Retired Lt. Col. Oliver North announced Saturday he would not serve a second term as president of the National Rifle Association. The announcement came after North attempted to oust longtime NRA CEO Wayne LePierre over a dispute involving the group’s finances and media operations and was made at the group’s national convention in Indianapolis, with North not in attendance.

Sri Lankan militants set off explosives, kill 15 during raid

Islamic militants linked to Easter Sunday’s suicide bombings in Sri Lanka responded to a security forces raid by setting off explosives at a house in the eastern part of the country, killing 15, including six children. The raid, which began as a gunbattle Friday night, represents an effort by officials to hunt down militants believed to remain at large after last Sunday’s coordinated bombings at churches and hotels that left more than 250 people dead.

United Methodist panel approves Traditional Plan

The United Methodist Church’s Judicial Council on Friday upheld most of the denomination’s plan to continue to affirm Biblical marriage and sexuality. In February, delegates at a special UMC conference in St. Louis voted to adopt what’s known as the “Traditional Plan,” which calls for better enforcement of church rules forbidding Methodist ministers from officiating same-sex weddings or being openly homosexual.
