Under different circumstances, Jerry Seinfeld’s new Netflix special, 23 Hours to Kill, might be something of a letdown. The comedian breaks no new ground; he braves no uncharted territory. Yet in a world living at arm’s length, the trivial observations about intrusive friends and exhausting social engagements that are his stock-in-trade suddenly feel as comforting as a mediocre meal at a convenient corner diner.

Real-life tales of intrepid journalists bringing down corrupt powers are staples in film and television. HBO’s new made-for-cable movie stands out not just for its A-list lead (Hugh Jackman), but because the reporter who breaks the story is a teenage girl. 

The publication: her high-school newspaper. The power she takes down: the administration of her school district, one of the highest-ranked in the nation.

If Anglophiles could make a wish and erase one show from memory to watch anew in this moment made for binging, Downton Abbey would likely top the list of candidates. While there’s, sadly, no magic that’ll allow us to meet the Crawleys or Mr. Carson and the rest of the downstairs gang for the first time all over again, we can introduce ourselves to Belgravia, the new series from Downton creator Julian Fellowes.
