Judge blocks protections for Indiana babies

A federal judge blocked an Indiana law Friday that would have protected babies from dismemberment abortion. U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker, a nominee of President Ronald Reagan, granted the preliminary injunction against the measure hours after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal over a similar Alabama law that lower courts struck down.

Missouri judge sets new deadline for abortion center

A judge in St. Louis on Monday extended an order protecting the state’s only abortion facility from closure through Friday. By then, Planned Parenthood must take its licensure case to a different venue, Missouri Circuit Judge Michael Stelzer ruled.

Supreme Court: Offensive trademarks are free speech

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday dealt a victory to a California fashion brand whose name sounds like an obscene word. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office refused to recognize the clothing brand on the grounds it was “immoral or scandalous,” but the justices on the high court struck down that part of federal law as a violation of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
