Maryland fourth state to vote on gay marriage in November

Pro-marriage activists in Maryland have gathered 162,000 signatures, almost three times the number required, to force a referendum this fall on the state's law allowing same-sex marriage. Maryland is the latest of four states that will vote this fall on the issue.

The state's Democratic-controlled General Assembly legalized same-sex marriage in March and the law is slated to take effect in January 2013. If the referendum fails, Maryland could be the first state to institute homosexual marriage by legislation rather than by court order.

Chariots of Fire recapturing British imagination

With the London Olympic Games approaching, Chariots of Fire, the 1981 Best Picture Oscar-winner and perennial family favorite, is recapturing the British imagination.

The reality-based story of two British sprinters going for gold in the 1924 Paris Games was re-released in British theaters on Friday and a digitally remastered DVD will be on sale this week. A stage adaptation has also opened in London's West End to rave reviews.

At The Episcopal Church General Convention in Indianapolis on Monday, the full delegation approved new anti-discrimination language for transgendered clergy candidates and church members. This action comes after years of schism in the denomination over its teachings on same-sex relationships.
