Rhode Island allows late-term abortions

Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo, a Democrat, signed a bill into law Wednesday that strips the state government of the power to protect unborn children up to the moment of birth. “It is extremely disappointing to see Rhode Island lawmakers cave to pressure from the abortion lobby to pass this radical bill,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List.

China: Former Interpol chief confessed to bribery

Former Interpol President Meng Hongwei confessed to accepting more than $2 million in bribes through his positions in Chinese government, according to a Chinese court on Thursday. The No. 1 Intermediate Court in Tianjin claimed Meng expressed regret for his actions at a hearing where he read his confession. A guilty verdict is almost assured. Meng became president of Interpol in 2016 and served as the head of the international police organization until his sudden disappearance in China in September 2018.

Record cocaine bust in Philadelphia

Law enforcement officials seized 33,000 pounds of cocaine Tuesday from a container ship at the port of Philadelphia, the largest U.S. cocaine bust in three decades. The drugs, found in containers on the MSC Gayane, were potentially worth more than $1 billion on the street, officials said. “This is one of the largest drug seizures in United States history. This amount of cocaine could kill millions—MILLIONS—of people,” U.S. Attorney William McSwain tweeted.
