The Vatican released a statement for Catholic educators on Monday criticizing the culture of gender fluidity and reaffirming a Biblical view of biological sex. The official statement, titled “Male and Female He Created Them,” comes from the Congregation for Catholic Education, which is the educational branch of the Vatican administration.
A crane crashed into a Dallas apartment building Sunday, killing one woman and injuring at least five other people, after a storm with strong winds hit the city. Two of the injured residents from the Elan City Lights apartments are in critical condition. The collapse occurred on a day in which a storm brought winds gusting up to 70 mph, felling trees and knocking out power in parts of the city. The ultimate cause of the collapse was unknown, but there was a “strong possibility” that the winds “played some role,” Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.
Former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was hospitalized Monday after being shot in the back Sunday night at a bar in the Dominican Republic. The gunman fired at close range from behind, injuring the Dominican native and two others at the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo. Bar patrons captured the gunman before turning him over to police, Dominican National Police Director Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte said. Police investigators have not determined whether Ortiz was the intended target. Jhoel López, a Dominican TV host, was also injured.
