Lowry wins British Open

Shane Lowry of the Republic of Ireland dominated the British Open and won his first major championship at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland on Sunday, finishing at 15-under-par, six strokes ahead of runner-up Tommy Fleetwood of England. Lowry, with both Irish and Northern Irish fans rallying behind him, shot a gritty 1-over-par 72 in the final round in the wind and rain, with none of his competitors getting within three strokes of his lead.

Abortion providers adjust to new federal funding rules

Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers said this week they will go without federal family planning money after the Trump administration began enforcement of new pro-life rules on Monday. Jacqueline Ayers, Planned Parenthood’s vice president of government relations and public policy, said the nation’s largest abortion provider would continue to fight the rules in court, and emergency funds would replace federal funding in the meantime.

Schumer calls for FaceApp investigation

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called on the FBI and Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday to investigate the viral FaceApp over potential security issues. Schumer said in a letter the Russia-based app could pose a threat to Americans’ privacy. “It would be deeply troubling if the sensitive personal information of U.S. citizens was provided to a hostile foreign power actively engaged in cyber hostilities against the United States,” he wrote.
