CDC issues everyday safety guidelines

Even elbow bumps could spread the coronavirus, according to new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The agency on Friday released a new document with more specific advice to avoid catching COVID-19 in various settings such as visiting restaurants, going to the bank, hosting cookouts, or traveling overnight.

Kentucky leaders respond to complaints about police

A police report from the shooting death of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Ky., has few details about the incident and lists “none” in a section describing injuries. Officers serving a no-knock search warrant in a drug investigation at the African American woman’s home on March 13 shot her eight times after her boyfriend fired at police, allegedly in self-defense. Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer called the report unacceptable. Separate documentation from the investigation into Taylor’s death likely contains more details but authorities have not yet made it public.

Protesters continue to topple monuments

A man suffered a life-threatening injury when fellow protesters tore down Confederate monument in Portsmouth, Va., on Wednesday night. The statue was one of several destroyed since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25. Protesters have targeted statues of Confederate leaders and also Christopher Columbus, who they say symbolizes the oppression of Native Americans.
