Museum of the Bible finds fragments were forged

The Museum of the Bible on Monday said it was removing five Dead Sea Scroll fragments from display after tests found they were forgeries. Third-party analysis performed by a German-based company found five of the museum’s 16 fragments showed “characteristics inconsistent with ancient origin,” according to a statement by the museum. Earlier studies raised questions about the fragments’ authenticity.

Hurricane Willa closing in on Mexico

Authorities in Mexico are rushing to set up shelters and evacuate people in low-lying areas as Hurricane Willa approaches the Pacific coastline. Forecasters expect the hurricane to weaken from a Category 4 to a Category 3 before it makes landfall Tuesday afternoon. About 8,000 people are evacuating a 140-mile stretch of coastline dotted with high-rise hotels and fishing villages from the resort city of Mazatlan to San Blas. Early Tuesday the storm was centered 150 miles off the coast.

White House pushes for biological definition of ‘sex’

A New York Times report Sunday cited a memo from the Trump administration that attempts to establish a legal definition of “sex” based on biology, not gender identity, under Title IX of the Civil Rights Act. The Times article warned that the move by the Department of Health and Human Services would define transgender people “out of existence,” which sparked a firestorm of angry responses from LGBT activists.
