France captures World Cup title

France closed out an exciting World Cup in Russia on Sunday, defeating Croatia 4-2. France was the second-youngest team in the tournament, and the youngest player on the team, 19-year-old Kylian Mbappé made history, becoming the first teenager in 60 years to score a goal in a World Cup final. Sunday’s victory represents France’s second World Cup title. The French also won in 1998.

Kavanaugh gets to work on Capitol Hill

President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee is making the rounds on Capitol Hill, the first step in a lengthy Senate confirmation process. Vice President Mike Pence made courtesy calls to senators with Brett Kavanaugh on Tuesday, telling lawmakers he’s the right man for the job. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said Wednesday as he met with Kavanaugh that he expected the Senate to confirm him. “There will be the usual attempts to sully his reputation not only in the Senate but outside the Senate, but he’ll be able to handle it and I have every confidence he’ll be confirmed,” Hatch said.

Trump readies for Supreme Court reveal

President Donald Trump is set to reveal his pick to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy on Monday at 9 p.m. EDT. The president has reportedly narrowed the field to three contenders, but some Senate Republicans mounted a push for a fourth, federal appellate Judge Thomas Hardiman. “Republicans are holding four lottery tickets, and all of them are winners. If you’re a conservative Republican, the four people named—particularly Thomas Hardiman, I’m glad he’s on the list—are all winners and every Republican should embrace these picks,” said Sen.
