Justify wins Triple Crown, jockey thanks Jesus

Justify became only the 13th Triple Crown winner in horse-racing history after winning the Belmont Stakes in New York on Saturday. He previously won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness to secure horse racing’s top prize. Justify became only the second horse to win the Triple Crown without ever losing a race, following Seattle Slew in 1977. Justify won the Belmont starting from the rail, 45 years to the day after Secretariat achieved that feat.

Trump, Trudeau spat continues long after G-7 ends

President Donald Trump’s war of words with U.S. allies continued over the weekend as the White House accused Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of “bad faith diplomacy.” Trump departed early from the weekend G-7 economic meeting in Quebec to prepare for his summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un in Singapore. After Friday’s gathering, during which G-7 leaders agreed to a consensus trade statement, Trudeau told reporters Canada would not be pushed around by the United States.

Congo begins Ebola vaccination campaign

Health officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo began a new vaccination campaign Monday in a bid to stop the spread of the latest Ebola outbreak. Doctors have 7,500 doses of an experimental serum known as RVSV ZEBOV and plan to vaccinate anyone who has come into contact with patients infected with the deadly virus. At least 27 people have died in Congo’s Equator province and officials believe nearly 50 more have contracted Ebola.
