White House bans combative CNN reporter

WASHINGTON—The White House suspended CNN reporter Jim Acosta’s press credentials following a tense exchange with President Donald Trump during a Wednesday news conference. Acosta asked a question about Trump’s characterization of a migrant caravan headed for the U.S. southern border as an invasion. Trump became frustrated with the line of questioning and called on another reporter. A White House aide attempted to take the microphone from Acosta, but he held on and began asking a follow-up question about the Russia investigation.

Trump: Off the ballot but in the spotlight

WASHINGTON—In a tense news conference Wednesday, President Donald Trump celebrated Republican Senate gains and largely dismissed the GOP loss of control of the House of Representatives in Tuesday’s midterm elections. Trump called Republican Senate and gubernatorial victories “a tremendous success” and pointed to his own campaign efforts, saying he “stopped a blue wave that they talked about.” Republicans flipped Senate seats in Indiana, North Dakota, and Missouri and may flip one that’s still too close to call in Florida.

Some midterm races still up in the air

Though the new balance of power in Congress was decided Tuesday, Republicans and Democrats were still waiting on a few too-close-to-call races Wednesday as they tallied their final seat counts in the House and Senate.
